
The City of Duluth has raised its share of the local property tax levy an unprecedented 65.4 percent, compounded, in the last six years as follows:
2021 — 2.98% increase
2020 — 8.46% increase
2019 — 5.92% increase
2018 — 10.19 increase
2017 — 17.65% increase
2016 — 7.68% increase
Under former mayor Don Ness:
2015 — 3.33% increase
2014 — .81% decrease

Dave Isaacson captured the 78th annual Reidar Lund Skyline Memorial Tournament at Enger Park Golf Course on Sunday, defeating runner-up Nick Christensen by seven shots. Mike Hill, The Legend, finished third.
Isaacson, who carded a four-under 68 in Saturday’s qualifying round, finished two-over par in the 45-hole event.

Duluth Police responded to report of a crash on Highway 61 near Congdon Boulevard at 6:13 a.m. today. A preliminary investigation revealed that a 2006 Chevy Malibu driven by a 30-year-old male from Shakopee was southbound on Highway 61 at high rate of speed. The vehicle collided with railroad lights and a guardrail. The driver was taken to a local hospital for treatment with injuries not believed to be life threatening. Speed and driver impairment are believed to be contributing factors in the crash.

Just before 3 a.m. today, a Duluth Police officer was on patrol near the 600 block of East Superior Street when he observed a vehicle driving at a high rate of speed through the Pickwick Restaurant parking lot. The vehicle hit a grassy knoll on the boulevard between the Pickwick and the Fitger’s complex and became airborne. The car eventually crashed into a light pole along the sidewalk. Pedestrians were in the area, but thankfully no one, including the driver, was injured.
As a result of the investigation, Ethan Farley, age 20 was arrested and booked into the St Louis County jail. He is awaiting formal charges that include, 3rd degree DUI which is a gross misdemeanor in Minnesota. The preliminary investigation showed the driver to have a blood alcohol content more than 2 1/2 the legal limit (.21 BAC).
